Your dam problem is our dam business

The Dam Doctor

Whatever problem you are experiencing with your dam, The Dam Doctor can assist.

the environmentally friendly doctor!

The Dam Doctor is an environmentally conscience company.
All weeds and reeds are mechanically removed by means of a working barge, equipped with specialised equipment for this purpose. We will never make use of chemicals.

In terms of dredging, we make use of a barge with specialised pumps designed for this function.
All mud/sediment is pumped at a certain S.G. (Specific Gravity) into specialised dewater bags.
Once the mud/sediment has been sufficiently dried out, it can then be safely removed from site..

Understanding your dam...

Knowing what stage your dam is in will assist you in understanding what management system your dam needs in order to ensure that it is kept in tip-top shape, as well as ensuring that you do not encounter further problems with your dam down the line!

1. OLIGOTROPHIC (new)

Oligotrophic dams are clear, cold dams with low nutrient levels and few macrophytes or plants. Geographically speaking these are “new” dams. These dams have very low levels of phosphorus and there is little to no algae present.

2. MESOTROPHIC (MIDDLE AGED)

Mesotrophic dams tend to have intermediate levels of nutrients and macrophytes or plants. These dams can be considered “Middle aged.” They have higher levels of phosphorus and experience some weed and algae problems.

3. EUTROPHIC (OLD)

Eutrophic dams are characterised by high nutrient levels, turbid water, and large algae and macrophyte plant populations. These dams have extreamly high phosphorus levels and will contain high levels of algae.

4. CULTURAL EUTROPHICATION

Cultural eutrophication is the acceleration of the aging process through human inputs, which speeds up this aging process at an exponential rate. These human inputs include erosion, fertilizers, waste runoff, leaky septic systems and more. The greater the level of the input the faster the dam ages.
